is a product by Duizend Kleuren; a collective of 4 makers (Joy Brandsma, Max Jonker, Margot van der Sande and Elsa Groener)

The film takes us into the hidden past of the black queer community in the Netherlands. What connects us to the generations before us, and what can we learn from each other? In this film, young queer people of color meet the women of Stichting Mil Colores, which has been creating meeting places for women of different ethnic backgrounds and gender preferences since 2000. A story about identity, resilience and a history still in motion.

The Duizend Kleuren project poses the question: on whose shoulders do we, as the queer community, stand? With this project, we aim to show how essential it is to find each other in times of polarization. It is not just about learning from each other’s differences but also about drawing strength from what connects us. By organizing events where the documentary serves as a tool to spark conversations, we seek to strengthen and deepen these connections.

SCREENED AT

is an ethnographic film portraying the world of two female skaters and one non-binary skater from Amsterdam: Pascale, Ati and Yael.

It explores how their bodies move in and through male-dominated skateboardspaces, how their friendship exists around their shared love for skateboarding and how the passivity of injury even can intensify that love. The yearning to engage with the skateboard shows how 'just' a wooden plank with four wheels can embody so many things: friendship, struggle, confrontation, love, community, (not) being scared, identity.

The film was produced as part of my Master's thesis in Visual and Media Anthropology
